Are you always looking for ways to build things?   I am, and computer programming is no exception.

Today, I would like to tell you about two courses that I reviewed from Homeschool Programming, Inc.  I received an electronic version of the KidCoder Windows Programming and the KidCoder Gaming Programming in exchange for my honest opinion of their product.

Here are some facts and my thoughts:

Homeschool Programming was developed by two homeschool parents that hold a B.S. and a M.S. degree in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering.  I think that is really cool.

The KidCoder courses are designed to teach kids how to program in Microsoft Visual Basic 2010 Express.  This is a free download so, no worries about buying additional software.

I have been interested in learning computer programming and developing my own video games for some time.  My mom was looking for a way to help me learn computer programming.  We checked out numerous books from the library.  I will admit that looking through those books was a little intimidating.  So, when I received the opportunity to review these courses I was really excited.

These two programs provided me with detailed information and a history of computer programming broken down in easy manageable lessons.  Each lesson includes a reading section and then a chance to put into action what you have learned.  It walks you through completing it once.  Then it gives you the challenge of modifying or changing it to further practice what you have learned.  I enjoyed this opportunity to learn about computer programming and can say that the course helped me understand and complete some programming projects.

I would recommend this to kids 4th grade and above that have an interest in computer programming.  Your parents do not have to have knowledge of computer programming and can learn right along with you.   My mom walked through each lesson with me.  That was helpful, however is not required.  Our electronic version was more challenging that having an actual printed textbook.  When you purchase the courses a printed textbook comes with your course so, this will not be an issue for you.    Basic computer skills are a must to complete this course.  I will say that computer programming can be difficult to grasp and you need a desire to want to learn it.  I do feel that Homeschool Programming did a nice job in making this easy for a beginner like me.

Homeschool Programming offers additional courses too.  Here is an overview of the courses they offer.

Although courses are designed with homeschoolers in mind, these courses can be used for anyone desiring to learn more about computer programming.  The cost for Kid Coder Windows Programing and KidCoder Gaming starts around $120+ for the two semesters.

I hope this has been helpful to you.  If you are looking for Computer Programming courses give Homeschool Programming a try.
